In short:

  • From Trondheim: about 75 km by car, or by RIB across the fjord.
  • Time for 2–3 experiences in one day.
  • Finish with dinner in a boathouse.

Want to get out of the city without spending the whole weekend? Frosta lies right across the fjord from Trondheim and is perfect for a day trip. Here is a suggestion.

From Trondheim across the fjord

If you come by RIB, we can stop at Steinvikholm on the way.

Morning: history

Start at Tinghaugen, where the Frostating was held in the Middle Ages. Continue to Logtun church and drive out along the causeway to Tautra with the monastery ruins from 1207 and the modern Mariaklosteret. With a guide: Viking laws, churches and monasteries (about 2 hours, May–September).

Lunch

Pop into the Arntzen bakery at Frostavegen 1752 on Frosta and taste the well-known Arntzen bun. Or eat on Tautra: Klostergården on Tautra has a restaurant, microbrewery and farm shop.

Afternoon: nature

Choose between The bird safari on Tautra (about 1.5 hours), Tronnobergskammen with a campfire (about 2 hours) or an e-bike tour (3–4 hours).

Evening: the fjord

Finish with RIB tour in the evening light, or gather the group for dinner in a boathouse with Beyond the Fjord. We pick you up in Trondheim at 16:00 and take you safely home again.
